Making her first public appearance in Storm Lake, New York Senator and 2008 Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton spoke to a crowd of 250 plus supporters in the Storm Lake Middle School gymnasium on Saturday, Oct. 20.

Former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack and wife Christie announced their support for Clinton and urged audience members to fill out supporter cards before Clinton began her speech.

"I'm running for President because I know we can do better in America," Clinton began her speech. "It's so exciting to see this level of involvement in Iowa."

Clinton explained that, when she was a child, her parents set goals for her. During her childhood, Clinton also felt like the United States was constantly moving forward because of goals set for the country by past leaders.

"What are our goals today?" Clinton asked. "I want to be a President who sets goals again…We can come together and solve problems. There's nothing America can't do."

If elected to office, Clinton has four goals ready for the country to undertake: to restore America's leadership, rebuild the middle class, create more jobs and reclaim the future for America's children.

Clinton's first goal, she says, begins with ending the war in Iraq. Everything else stems from there, Clinton said.

"There is no military solution," Clinton said. "Our young men and women are acting as referees in an Iraq civil war."

While few Buena Vista University (BVU) students were in attendance, most likely due to fall break, Clinton was still sure to touch on issues relevant to any college student.

"I want to figure out why college has become so expensive," Clinton said.

Clinton plans to have colleges pledge to not increase tuition over a student's term. Besides maintaining tuition, Clinton plans to increase Pell Grants and college credits to $3,500.

"We've got to get back to acting like the leader of the world again," Clinton said.

"The era of cowboy diplomacy's over."
