On Saturday the Buena Vista University men's basketball team qualified for the NCAA D3 Sweet Sixteen with a win over 9th ranked University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The win tonight sends Buena Vista to their third Sweet Sixteen in school history and first time since 2003. The Beavers came out on top 54-53.

Both teams started out the game slow, but the Pointers soon gained a big lead over the Beavers. Turnovers plagued BV early in the game, but towards the end of the first half the Beavers started to make a come back. They pulled within three points by the end of halftime with a score of 27-24.

At the start of the second half, a Matt Cleveland free-throw followed up by an Andre Wagner three pointer gave the Beavers their first lead of the game. Buena Vista did not trail again for the majority of the second half.

A Travis Person offensive rebound with 15 seconds left all but secured a Buena Vista win. With a final score of 54-53, the Beavers won in regulation.

Matt Cleveland led the Beavers with 13 points and Andre Wagner added 12 points in the game. The day was a great defensive stand as the Beavers held the Pointers to only 34.4% shooting. Senior Rahn Franklin had a good game pulling down 10 rebounds and dishing out 6 assists.

The Buena Vista Beavers will play this Friday at a location to be determined soon. This Friday the Beavers opponent will be the University of Washington, who defeated Augustana 70-67 in overtime today.
